What format to use for documents linked to Symbaloo tile and issues to be resolved


Documents linked to Symbaloo tiles can be stored in several different formats and locations in the Web.
Google Drive can be used to store documents.
You can upload documents in Word or PDF format. If you have images, smart art or any word art type items in your word document it is best to save the document as a PDF before uploading to Google Drive as formatting is lost when loaded as a word or google doc.
You can then choose the share option and copy the URL link to your Symbaloo tile.
Issues
The document opens with page tiles down the left hand side showing the pages that can be viewed.
Solution
When you are uploading documents to Google Drive you can change the settings for your account and convert uploaded documents to the Google Doc format. This can then be linked to a Symbaloo tile and when opened will show a full page view.Can only be used for simple word documents as formatting of diagrams, word art, smart art will be lost in translation

Issues
The documents belong to the GMAIL user - ??? need ITAFE google drive to store these documents.

Slideshare
I have uploaded PDF type documents to Slideshare and then shared the link to a Symbaloo tile and the document format looks very professional. You can upload documents or powerpoints.
Issue
When you sign up for Slideshare this is a PUBLIC account and anyone signed up for Slideshare will see your documents. Can upgrade to PRO version to achieve privacy but this costs money.
Solution
Maybe a central ITAFE Slideshare account with PRO privelges that ITAFE can use and have a private area.

    Thanks for this Lynette, will certainly save us SME's a lot of time. Perhaps these iTAFE accounts is something we need to follow up as we move into Phase 2 and need to have a cloud system to store documents for our webmix.

    Hi

    I think it would also be good to make sure that we use a clear and larger font for the main parts of a text eg. Arial or Verdana at least size 12. Of course there's times when it's more appropriate to use comic sans or more handwriting style fonts for headings, effect or to simulate something that is handwrittng.

    What about marketing's standards for documents, what type of documents are we required to use these for?
